Students: May sit for board exams up to 6 months prior to graduating.
Preceptor/Intern/Extern Program: Senior interns at a chiropractic college, upon the written request of the college's clinic administrator to the Board, and the written approval of the Board, may obtain clinic instruction hours at a licensee's office while under the immediate on-site supervision of a licensed Chiropractic Physician. Interns shall wear name badges identifying them as senior interns and shall not use the title "Doctor."

CONTINUING EDUCATION: Accepts PACE
  Requirements: 20 hours per year; all first time licensees and those changing status from inactive to active must complete 4 hours in over-the-counter non-prescriptive substances and any specific courses required by the Board; 2 hours related to Evidence-Based Outcomes Management, to be taken anytime from now until 1/1/2008; 6 hours in pain management and/or the treatment of terminally ill and dying patients plus an additional one-hour on-line course offered by the Oregon Pain Management Commission, effective 1/1/06.
Distance Credits Allowed: No limit
Program Criteria: All programs are assumed approved as long as the licensee follows the specific criteria set in administrative rule 811-015-0025.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  Min. # years pre-professional education required for licensure: 2 years of Liberal Arts and Sciences 36 hours minor surgery and proctology. No requirement for 4-year degree planned.   
  Accreditation for Chiropractic Programs/Institutions: Council on Chiropractic Education standards used on which to base Board approval of individual schools.
  Subjects Examined: Basic sciences, including anatomy, physiology, chemistry, pathology, public health and hygiene. Also clinical subjects including physical diagnosis, differential diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis, theory and practice of chiropractic, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy, electrotherapy and hydrotherapy, chiropractic orthopedics.
         
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATES OF FOREIGN COLLEGES:  Must meet Oregon statutory requirements for educational standards. The Board may, at it’s discretion, request foreign transcripts be evaluated by an educational evaluation service. Should the board require evaluation of foreign transcripts, the candidate will be responsible to contact an approved educational evaluation service. Foreign transcripts not official, will be returned to the candidate.
         
SUMMARY OF SCOPE OF PRACTICE:

"Chiropractic" is defined as that system of adjusting with the hands the articulations of the bony framework, and the employment and practice of physiotherapy, electrotherapy, hydrotherapy and minor surgery. Includes, chiropractic diagnosis, treatment and prevention of body dysfunctions, correction, maintenance of the structural and functional integrity of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects thereof or interferences therewith by the utilization of all recognized and accepted chiropractic diagnostic procedures and the employment of all rational therapeutic measures as taught in approved chiropractic colleges. "Drugs" means all medicines and preparations and all substances, except over-the-counter nonprescription substances, food, water and nutritional supplements taken orally, used or intended to be used for the diagnosis, cure, treatment, mitigation or prevention of diseases or abnormalities of humans, which are recognized in the latest editions of the official United State Pharmacopoeia, official Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia, official National Formulary, or any supplement to any of them or otherwise established as drugs. No person practicing under this Chapter shall administer or write prescriptions for, or dispense drugs, practice optometry or naturopathy or do major surgery. "Minor surgery" means the use of electrical or other methods for the surgical repair and care incident thereto of superficial lacerations and abrasions, benign superficial lesions, and the removal of foreign bodies located in the superficial structures; and the use of antiseptics and local anesthetics in connection therewith.
