If you were registered with a State or Territory registration board as of June 30, 2010, you will have automatically transitioned to the new national registration and accreditation scheme.  Your registration is valid until the end date of your current registration.  If you were registered in more than one State or Territory, your registration is valid until the latest end date of your current registrations.  Once in the new scheme, you will only need to renew when your current registration expires.

Renewal Fees:  Refer to Schedule of fees (www.chiropracticboard.gov.au/Fees.aspx); For new applicants, the fee for annual renewal of registration will vary depending at what point the application is made during the renewal cycle.

Student Registrations: If you are enrolled in an approved program of study you do not need to apply for registration.  Education providers will pass on your details to the Chiropractic Board for registration.  No fees are required.

If you are not already registered with a State or Territory Board you will not be registered in the national scheme until March, 2011.

The Chiropractic Board will register you for the duration of study or clinical training, or until you are no longer enrolled.

Optional Licenses or Certification: Acupuncture

CONTINUING EDUCATION:  All practitioners must complete a minimum of 25 hours of CPD activities annually.  At least 50% (12.5 hours) of the hours required must be 'formal' learning activities. The balance may be either 'formal' or 'informal' learning activities. Hours credited towards formal learning activities must be directed towards clinical matters that contribute to minimizing risk, improving patient safety and health outcomes.  For details, visit www.chiropracticboard.gov.au/en/registration-standards.aspx

CONDITIONS FOR RECIPROCITY/ENDORSEMENT: The new national license allows you to practice anywhere in Australia.

EXAMINATIONS ADMINISTERED BY BOARD: National Boards will consider every registration application carefully to ensure all practitioners granted registration have the qualifications, skills and experience to provide safe care to the Australian public.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Registration standards define the requirements that aplicants, registrants or students need to meet to be registered.  The Chiropractic Board of Australia has developed the following registration standards:
►Chiropractic Continuing Professional Development Registration Standard
     ►Chiropractic Criminal History Registration Standard
►Chiropractic English Language Skills Registration Standard
►Chiropractic Professional Indemnity Insurance Registration Standard
►Chiropractic Recency of Practice Registration Standard

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATES OF FOREIGN COLLEGES:  Practitioners with overseas chiropractic qualifications wanting to practice as a chiropractor in Australia should visit the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia (www.ccea.com.au/) for all details and requirements.

OTHER REFERENCE INFORMATION:
     Certified Clinical Chiropractic Assistants:
  not regulated
Chiropractors defined as Primary Care Physicians: The National Law does not define chiropractic nor any of the other regulated professions. The National Law is a title-protection and part-practice restriction Act. The professions are indirectly defined by the definitions and standards of the profession-specific appointed accreditation body.
